Short Message Service | SMS
A Short Message Service, or SMS, is a system for sending text messages over a mobile network connection to mobile phones. SMS communicates only typed characters—i.e., letters and numbers, no pictures, audio, or video—and is limited to 160 characters. Longer messages are typically broken into pieces and then reassembled in the correct order after transmission.
Longer and/or more complex messages (that is, those with more than just text) can be sent via Multimedia Message Service, or MMS.
