Natural language processing, or “NLP,” is the part of computer science—or more specifically, artificial intelligence/AI—that allows computers to understand text and audio/voice in essentially the same way humans do. NLP combines rule-based modeling of human language with machine learning, and other programming to enable computers to process human language in the form of text or voice data and to ‘understand’ its full meaning, including the intent and emotions.
NLP is commonly utilized in chatbots on websites, automated customer service, dictation applications, GPS systems, translating from one language to another, digital assistants, and a variety of other uses.
